Job Opportunities

General Assistant — Admin, Packing & Engraving
Fixed-term contract, 9–12 months, with the possibility of ongoing employment

Based in Martley, Worcestershire, BabyRice has been creating treasured keepsake gifts since 2006. We're a small, friendly team, and we're looking for a General Assistant to join us across several areas of the business.

This is a genuinely varied role — no two days look quite the same, and you'll move between different tasks throughout the week. Full training is given, and there's real scope to progress within the company for the right person.

About you

We're looking for someone enthusiastic, adaptable and detail-oriented — someone who takes pride in getting things right, works efficiently, and enjoys picking up new skills. You'll fit right in if you're a positive, reliable team player who's happy to muck in wherever needed.

What you'll be doing

Production, Packing & Order Processing

  • Processing orders and despatch labels using our online systems (ShipStation, Amazon, eBay, Website, Etsy)
    • Packing orders to a high standard — including gift wrapping and ribbon tying — checking every component is present and correct
    • Preparing components for packing (filling paint pots, plaster bags, and similar items)
    • Cutting mounts using a computer and CNC machine (full training given)
    • Daily stock checks alongside the Production Manager
    • Managing goods in/out with the rest of the packing team
    • Some heavy lifting (up to 25kg), once or twice a day
    • Light admin - responding to customer emails

Engraving

  • Engraving plaques using CorelDraw and our engraving machine (full training given)
  • Creating beautifully finished plaques and keepsake items
  • Polishing and packing orders to a high standard
  • This list gives a good flavour of the role but isn't exhaustive — as a small team, everyone pitches in where needed.

What we're looking for

  • A genuine team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Physically fit — the role involves standing for most of the day and some heavy lifting upto 25kg
  • Adaptable and keen to learn new skills across different parts of the business
  • Confident with Windows-based computer systems (and unfazed by the occasional printer jam!)
  • A real eye for detail and a perfectionist streak in your work
  • A strong record of reliable timekeeping and attendance

Nice to have (not essential)

  • Forklift licence
  • Experience with production control, stock checking, or ordering
  • Experience working within a small business or close-knit team

Hours & details

  • Monday–Wednesday, 8.30am–5pm (½ hour unpaid lunch)
  • Occasional Thursday working, once or twice a month and particularly after bank holidays and during busy periods (Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day)
  • We don't work Fridays
  • 16.8 days holiday, inclusive of bank holidays (pro-rata)
  • Immediate start available
  • 9–12 month fixed-term contract, with a 3-month initial trial period
